Underrated Brilliance…PBS

November 19th, 2008 by Jordan

If you’re a regular of this blog, you know my disdain for news programs such as FOX and CBS and the rest of the jokers.  But PBS is on my good list.  I feel it goes past the initial search for ‘shock’ that other channels are after and really digs into what the journalist is after.  No commercials, and you can watch full programs online.  The culture that you can capture is just amazing, it comes in second to actually being there.  I think upon my death PBS will get a good chunk of any assets I have.

Sophie Scaplehorn

November 17th, 2008 by Jordan

Very unique art from UK based artist Sophie Scaplehorn. Only 22 years old she seems to have a huge future ahead of her, and I’m already interested in seeing more. I particularly like the India piece above.

9 Country Icon Set

November 16th, 2008 by Jordan

I decided to create some icons of a few of the more traveled countries.  You can download them here.
I’ve been using them as folder icons for my pictures of the corresponding country.  I’ll be making more general travel icons in the future, and I will add more countries.  It takes a little while to create them.

Q-Man Travel Luggage

November 13th, 2008 by Jordan

Very cool luggage tags from UncommonGoods.com.  I’m always interested in how people mark their luggage for it’s journey on the carousel.  Because if you don’t have something to identify your black square luggage, then you become that old man who has to stop every black square bag on the carousel to see if it’s his.  Don’t be that guy…come up with a creative way like this.

Why Most Travel Icons are a Bit Soppy

November 12th, 2008 by Jordan

When did it become a rule that icons must be corny, hack, cheesy, and soppy?  Travel icons especially bother me…you always get the 1980′s camera, the standard desk globe, palm tree is a staple in most icon sets, and the classic suitcase style luggage that no one has used since as long as I can remember.  I think travel icons should be more truthful…represent the realty travelers face today. And perhaps not so kid-friendly.

As you can tell I’m disappointed by the cheeriness represented in these standard travel icons found EVERYWHERE…so I’ve decided to develop/create my own travel icons. Perhaps more truthful PG-13 rated travel icons. I will be making them available for download in time to come. For instructions on installing on PC, click here.  For mac, click here.

And of course you know I just had to create an IzunoTravel.com icon to get things rolling.

Barack Obama and a Weekly Update

November 9th, 2008 by Jordan

I don’t remember Bush doing anything like this.  Barack Obama has set up a Change.gov site to learn about his agenda, his staff picks, and even sign up or apply for a job.  Even if you want to argue about the effectiveness of this site, I don’t think anyone can argue about his planning and motivation at this moment.  He’s already taking actions showing us how involved he wants to be.

Weekly Update:
I’ve created a new Italy Travel Button you will see tomorrow hopefully.  I’m starting to advertise a bit on Facebook, and we’ve seen the site traffic up a little bit.  I’m also working on getting another author to create some posts, but it’s not set in stone yet. Have a good week.

Travel Videos on Travelistic.com

November 3rd, 2008 by Jordan

Lonely Planet TV has nothing on this site.  The logo pretty much says it all, videos for travelers.  They break it down by destination, and I warn you, it is a bit addictive.  Good navigation and a nice clean site.  Check them out at travelistic.com

FLaKoHN Series Greece Button

November 3rd, 2008 by Jordan

This weeks new FLaKoHN Series button – Greece. Available in the Izuno Store. Each button is a limited edition of 100. One 1″ button for $1. I’m going to move the new buttons arrival on Monday’s from now often. Friday’s are a low traffic day in general. Hopefully it will be a week of good news and good posts. I’m in need of something good right now.

note: the pic of the actual button (top left) turned out horrible…I’ll probably redo it sometime this week, but the actual button looks good.
