Beautiful Site…Go To China

March 31st, 2009 by Jordan

go_to_china_travel1

This is how all travel guides sites should be.  Simple with awesome photography.  Although I feel the phrase ‘Great Strengths are Great Weaknesses’ applies here.  The reason I like it is the reason it’s not entirely practical.  The content is minimal…but the photography more than makes up for it.  Yes…I’m flip flopping I know!  Go check GoToChina out.  Then get more information from LP or RG.

A Map for Saturday

March 30th, 2009 by Jordan

Frankly I’m a little embarrassed I’m just now finding out about this…(with being in the travel trend industry and all).  But it’s still a good find.  In 2007 Brook Silva-Braga created a documentary called “A Map for Saturday.”  It’s a DVD about backpacking the world for one year, and the experience travellers have.  His site is http://www.amapforsaturday.com.  And to let you in on something a little more recent, he’s creating another documentary titled “One Day in Africa.”

Properly Chilled w/ Natalia Clavier

March 25th, 2009 by Jordan

natalia_clavier

I’m a regular to ProperlyChilled.com. It’s where I get filled on my favorite kind of music, which is downtempo/lounge/world/chill out music. That’s where I first heard this amazing artist, Natalia Clavier. I think the reason I like this style so much is that it sounds like something you might hear coming from a live band at a discotec in South America. You would be walking down the street, hear the sounds and go in just to see what the crowd is like. I would probably end up spending all night there simply because it puts me in a good mood. Or it could be Natalia is just talented and has a relationship with Federico Aubele (another amazing musician).

New Moleskine Website

March 24th, 2009 by Jordan

moleskine_travel_journals

Just a quick update to let everyone know about the relaunch of Moleskine.com.  The big new feature apparently is an application called MSK.  Once you create an account and login, you can write in dates, information or upload a picture, select which size Moleskine you have and print your page (in .pdf) for direct insertion into your Moleskine journal.  Am I missing something?  I hope so, because if that’s the “cool” new feature…well…that’s a touch weak.  Nevertheless, worth a look.

Airline Food Surprises No More

March 24th, 2009 by Jordan

airline_food

Airlinemeals.net has a ridiculously huge database of airline food information and pictures it’s a bit scary. Not only do they have a description and a picture of each meal, but they tell you which route it was served on, duration of the flight, comments by the author, cabin class, and aircraft type. Add that with a sortable list by airline, and I’d be willing to bet you have the largest, if not best site devoted to airline meals. I love it.

High Sierra Day Bag Attachable

March 23rd, 2009 by Jordan

It’s good to see a bag actually designed the way backpackers wear them.  High Sierra meets the demands of urban backpacking with this model.  It’s a detachable day bag, that will also clip into the main pack, but can be worn in front to protect your belongings (as pictured ;) .  I wish someone would make some lightweight durable clips for any style day bag to be attached.

My Mistake….(and an apology)

March 22nd, 2009 by Jordan

I recently did a post about Barack Obama.  And then after opinionated comments (that were in fact fair and accurate), I removed the post.  Pretty sure I need to stay on point…which is travel…not politics.  Lesson learned.  Maybe a picture of a happy pink logo balloon will cheer everyone back up?!

Travel Photography by Lisa Kristine

March 22nd, 2009 by Jordan

lisa_kristine_2

Lisa Kristine is a six continent 60 country photographer. The best thing about Lisa, besides the pictures, is that she explains her work on her blog. You can read about her equipment, her travels and a lot more. It’s really interesting for amateur photographers like myself. If you are ever in Santa Fe, Sonoma, or Sausalito, go check out her galleries.

Wanko Soba

March 20th, 2009 by Jordan

wanko_soba

I figured the title of this post is interesting enough. Wanko Soba is more of a competition against the server than a type of food. Apparently, you have to eat all your noodles with sides of raw fish and other traditional Japanese side dishes before the server refills your bowl (generally numerous bowls are filled and eaten). And that is all the server wants to do is refill refill refill. Yell “MAITTA” and cover your bowl as long as you have finished your noodles to cease soba fire. Here are the full instructions.

Designer Shop and Eat Guides

March 18th, 2009 by Jordan

atlanta1

I’m thinking about getting this for a friend of mine who does nothing but shop and eat. Plus she is going to be in Atlanta for a long time. From ShopComposition.com comes a very cool guide for only $15, covering only shopping and more importantly eating! Supposedly, it’s a guide to the best locally owned spots and we all know how much I like the locals.
